How to apply for Common Service Centers (CSCs)?

The Digital India Scheme, launched by the Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, benefitted the millions of citizens of India. The government of India has come up with an initiative under the Digital India program, the CSC Digital Seva.

Common Service Centre (CSC)is a service delivery point in rural areas for the delivery of Government, Social, and Private Sector services in the segments of agriculture, health, education, entertainment, FMCG products, banking, and financial services, utility payments, e-commerce, etc and CSCs are developed and regulated by Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Government of India under the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP). CSC is also called a citizen service point.

Eligibility Criteria to Apply for CSC

Any citizen of India who has passed class 10 can open a CSC. One may apply for registration online by providing the required data. But before registration, one shall complete an online course {Certificate Course in Entrepreneurship (CCE) / Telecentre Entrepreneur Course (TEC)} and assessment test by registering at an online portal with a nominal fee of approximately 1,500 rupees.

Additionally, the applicant needs to meet the following criteria to be eligible

  • Be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • Be a citizen of the same area where you want to open the CSC Digital Seva Kendra (residence proof is mandatory)
  • Have a valid number, e-mail ID, and bank account
  • Be at least a 10th pass from a recognized board (and have the 10th pass mark sheet along with any other education qualification certificate)
  • Have identity proofs such as an Aadhaar card, passport-size photograph, and PAN card
  • Have a photograph of the CSC Center

Procedure to Apply for CSC

Step 1: Visit the CSC’s official website.

Step 2: Click on CSC registration. You will be redirected to the website for CSC registration.

Step 3: Click on ‘Click here to Register’ under the ‘VLE registration’.

Step 4: Select your application type. If you are an individual, select ‘CSC VLE’. Otherwise, choose one of the other options that apply. Enter your TEC Certificate Number. You can apply for the certificate from the same portal. Enter your mobile number, email, and captcha code. Then, select ‘Submit’. Complete the OTP verification.

Step 5 On this page, fill in your name, date of birth, gender, location type (rural or urban), authentication type (OTP, fingerprint, etc.), and captcha. Then, click on ‘Submit’.

Step 6: In the thorough application form, enter your personal details, location details (longitude and latitude using a map), banking details, your address, submit your photo, etc., carefully. Make sure to read the terms and conditions and re-check all the information you have filled in before you click on ‘Submit’.

Step 7: After submitting, you will be given an ‘Application form reference ID’. Write it down or save it in your system for later reference in the application process.

After completing the above steps, you will receive an acknowledgment mail on your registered email address. The application is forwarded to the nearest District Manager of CSC for online verification. However, in some cases, they may visit your center’s location and then approve it.

  • Adding an operator to CSC registration – You can also register yourself for CSC by adding yourself as an operator. This is a shorter way. To do this, you will have to register as an operator with an individual who already has an ID and password for CSC. 
  • After that, you will get your login credentials and start operating a CSC in a few minutes.

B) System Requirements for CSC Outlet

i) At least 120 GB Hard Disc Drive.

ii) At least 512 MB RAM.

iii) CD / DVD Drive.

iv) UPS PC with Licensed Windows XP-SP2 or above operating system.

v) With 4 hrs battery backup/Portable Genset.

vi) Printer/ Colour Printer.

vii) Webcam/digital camera.

viii) Scanner.

ix) Internet connection with at least 128 kbps speed for browsing & data uploading over the internet. x) An office with a small area and furniture
